American Christian Principles of Government—Part 3: Christian Character

There are two kinds of Christians on the King’s land: those who have words only and those who have the power through their lives to back up the King’s words coming out of their mouths.

Power is where all the kingdom action lies. And that is why divine power in the life of the King’s subjects is guarded by problems and conflict.

In this next installment on the Christ-centered, governmental principles of America’s founding-era, I present how people are either instruments of the King’s virtue unto victory over America’s enemies or instruments of Satan’s degradation unto oppression and Babylonian captivity.

Character is God’s plan for the resurrection of your family government today.

If I am a historian, I am a junior one at that. At the same time, it seems to be the Father-heart of God that fathers be historians to their children,

“When your son asks you in time to come, ‘What is the meaning of the testimonies and the statutes and the rules that the LORD our God has commanded you?’

Then you shall say to your son, ‘We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt. And the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

And the LORD showed signs and wonders, great and grievous, against Egypt and against Pharaoh and all his household, before our eyes.

And he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in and give us the land that he swore to give to our fathers.

And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as we are this day.

And it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to do all this commandment before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us.’
    —Deut. 6:20-25

The father gives his son a history lesson from the view that the one true God (Lawgiver) is the source of seeing events and people as they truly are, not as they appear. This is called the Providential view of history and is a lost doctrine to the church in our modern era.

However, the recovery of this lost truth is so quickening and reassuring to the soul that is regenerated (new birth) out of spiritual darkness into spiritual light. This is about understanding the WHY behind the WHAT of history. Facts, figures, and dead people don’t tell the story BEHIND the story.

What is behind all things is not the hand of man, but the Great burden-removing, Yoke-destroyer impressing (character) His Gumption-Breath (Holy Spirit) on His geography today. When I embrace this true rendering of history—that covenant-keepers win, and covenant-breakers loose, I can never fail and neither can you.

Thus, why should I wait around to correct what the Gumption-Breath of the King shows me? The King works through individuals, which means at a minimum—my obedience to the King is not subject to a single will or collective will of others. My obedience to the King is not subject to force and threat of force by others in families, church, or state. Where such people exist in these jurisdictions, oppression is the result. I go the way of well-ordered liberty. Nothing trumps that standing in our unseen King.

The King is impressing His story overcoming the cosmic conflict that is played out on His land America, Canada, Japan, Turkey, Scotland, etc. All believers today, ought relish the massive heritage of the King’s story in Scripture, in the early church, in the Protestant Reformation, and the founding of America. We all without excuse based on the record of evidence that here is no King but King Jesus.

Thank you again for mention Noah Webster as one of the founding fathers of America who gave us the dictionary with a biblical worldview using 28% of definitions directly from scripture! I have a deeper appreciation of the historical evidence, as you emphasize, that America is a Christian (not Jewish or Muslim or Buddhist) nation and God’s hand is still guiding her to fulfill ALL that God purposed for this nation.

Interesting you would ask, What is the theme of the 1st century Christian? The past 3 months during my quiet time, I’ve been hearing in my heart “Trust Me” and the scripture I received early in my Christian walk from James 1:2 came to mind, “Count it all joy…Let patience have her perfect work”. Of course, that is the last thing I wanted to hear again but a little book was brought to my attention, “On Patience” and the opening lines read, “The earliest Christians deemed patience ‘the greatest of all virtues’ and that which was ‘pecurliarly Christian’…the vision for this new culture came in significant measure from Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount.” What a testimony these 1st century Christians must have made on their surrounding culture whenever they faced trials & tribulations enabling them to display both patience & a peculiar exuberance. And I’m hearing throughout this episode on how to develop the Christ-centred life much from Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount.

I must say that I am seeing another perspective to your messages, the historical, you are an inspiring historian on the Christian roots of the American Republic. As you know, I’ve been praying that God would raise up a Canadian who would research the historical Christian roots of Canada. We are fortunate to have a Canadian patriot like Matthew Ehret who has done some deep & thorough research on the history of Canada & and why we Canadians have been happy to be “hewers of wood and drawers of water, Jos.9:20” instead of the superior form of sovereignty defined in the 1648 Treaty of Westphalia.
